Look and Live

We focus too much on our brokenness, our failures, our addictions, our iniquities, and our frailties. God is saying to you today, come and I will give you rest for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Sister, you don't have to carry all that....

What if I told you that we sum up our faith in three words: ‘Look and live’? Only by looking at Jesus Christ do we attain eternal life.

Looking to Jesus means that we believe in him. To believe he is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him. (Hebrews 7:25). Who else should we look to other than the author and finisher of our faith? (Heb 12:2).

In Numbers 21, God tells Moses to make a fiery serpent and put it on a pole. This followed after the Israelites expressed discontentment with the journey and murmured against God and Moses. Whoever looked at the serpent lived, but those who didn’t look perished.

The serpent was a prototype of Jesus Christ. Whoever looks to Jesus Christ will not perish but have everlasting life.

Such a simple instruction from God, right? But believe me, many Israelites died disobeying the instruction God gave. A good number focused on their pain and perished, while those who looked at the serpent lived.

Don’t get me wrong, what saved the Israelites was not the brass serpent but God’s intervention through their faith.

Jesus, when speaking to Nicodemus, hits the nail on the head when he compares the incident in the wilderness with his crucifixion.

Just as those who looked at the serpent lived, those who looked to Jesus will have eternal life.

When we look at Calvary, where our Saviour died for us. We remember how He endured the shame for the joy set before him. The joy of saving you and me. When we embrace the cross, we make peace that we are unable to walk on the narrow way alone. We do need Jesus with us.

When the snake bites of life are too heavy for you, turn your eyes up to Calvary. Christ will help you, whatever it is. Give them all to Jesus, whether they are temptations, sorrows, disappointments, inabilities, or weaknesses. The answer may not come according to what we expect, but it will come because God’s word is pledged. {OHC 134.3}

Those who did not look at the serpent on the pole perished. Those who focused on the pain represent innumerable Christians today.

We focus too much on our brokenness, our failures, our addictions, our iniquities, and our frailties. God is saying to you today, Come, and I will give you rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Sister, you don’t have to carry all that.

When you turn your eyes on Him, your life will never be the same again. Why should we perish when we have a savior so loving this?

Look because the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy.” James 5:11. Look at Calvary, since that’s the only place you will find healing from your childhood trauma. You will find healing in unuttered addictions. Those sickening thoughts will be erased. Your broken heart will be mended. You will find peace—peace that exceeds human understanding. Philippians 4:7 You only need to look at Calvary, and you will live.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the message you have given us today. May you help us to look to you always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I’ve a message from the Lord, Hallelujah!
The message unto you I’ll give.
’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”
Refrain:
“Look and live,” my brother, live.
Look to Jesus now and live.
’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.

  1. Amen Sheila,,,,, Powerful message from God….
Numbers 21:8 is a simple instruction for sure, sadly instead of implementing it by faith we sought for more “reasonable” and “realistic” ways to solve our problems…… God help us!

  3. Amen. When you turn your eyes on Him, your life will never be the same again. Why should we perish when we can look and live? Powerful

  4. Quite a timely encouragement coming at a time when resentment seems to be overshadowing our faith. Looking to Jesus is the only way to victory as we invest our hope in the saving grace of the Lord. Much thanks Sheila for sharing this message.
